On-site Seated Acupressure Massage Diploma Course

A ‘must have’ Diploma for any massage therapist. It is a skill that is portable, flexible, convenient, and most importantly, in demand! Also suitable for beginners.
This course is taught by Lucy Trend, who ran the Drop-In Shiatsu Massage service within Borders Books for 12 years, and has given thousands of on-site treatments. Over the 2 days the course incorporates 3 set routines: 10 minute, 20 minute, and a ‘hands free’ routine for those with wrist or thumb problems. Lucy shares with you some useful bites of her in depth knowledge of Acupoint and shiatsu meridian location and function. Plus a host of practical and flexible Thai Massage and Japanese Shiatsu techniques to incorporate into treatments and equip you to work with skill and confidence. Suitable for all levels of experience from beginner to professional massage therapist. This course is also a module on the Traditional Thai Therapies Certificate
Course dates for Glasgow: Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th February 2019 10am-5pm Held at Shiatsu and Thai Massage Training, Fifth floor, Standard Buildings, 94 Hope Street, Glasgow G2 6PH in Glasgow City Centre beside Glasgow Central Station
Cost: £155 per person (£140 each for two booking together). 10% discount if you bring your one onsite massage chair. Repeaters welcome, cost if bringing their own chair £75. Additional £50 per person assessment fee if you require certification (dates to be arranged between assessor and student once case studies are completed). Class numbers are limited to ensure individual attention.
Entry requirements: Suitable for all levels of experience from beginner onwards. To receive the Diploma you must have existing massage or bodywork certificate (or equivalent qualification which must cover Anatomy and Physiology up to or over Level 3). If you don’t have this qualification you would be able to practise safely on family and friends. Or further home study in Anatomy and Health & Safety are required to become professionally qualified. Onsite Seated Massage Diploma Course Syllabus:
14 hours training course with 90 mins assessment after completion of 30 case study treatments.
•Suitability for different locations
•Aims, Limitations and Precautions
•Overview of equipment and supplies required
•Setting up the chair and adjusting to individual requirements
•Principles of good posture and how to use body weight safely and effectively
•Effective use of thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows and double handed techiniques.
•Supporting and manoeuvring the client, use of stretching and positioning
•Practical Techniques for a 10, 20 or 30 minute treatment
•How to work with Acupoints and Shiatsu meridians
•How to adapt according to body type, stiffness or injury restrictions and contraindications
•Contraindications and effective use of client health form
•Acupoint and Shiatsu Meridian location and function
•Promoting and Marketing your skills
- Ongoing formative assessment in class
- Summative Assessment: consisting of Case study sessions to be completed
